Title Matching

Before importing them, Destiny® can determine whether the incoming bibliographic records are duplicates of records already in your collection.

When using the Strict rules, Destiny determines that an incoming record is a duplicate (match) of an existing one if it shares all of the following information with an existing record:

  • A standard number (LCCN, ISBN, or ISSN)
Note: If an incoming record contains a 13-digit ISBN beginning with 978 and the collection record has the 10-digit form of that ISBN—or the reverse—Destiny considers them to be the same ISBN.
  • First 80 characters of the title (245_a)
  • Material type
  • Material type subtype (if present)
  • First 20 characters of the author (if present) (100, 110, or 111)
  • Publication date (if present)

If you select the Remove the author requirement check box, Destiny ignores the author field.
