Generate System Health Reports

The System Health Reports let you monitor your server's performance. They present information about the performance and use of your system resources, both graphically in a chart and numerically in a list.

The Browser Report displays information about the browsers through which the users access Destiny®.

The Bandwidth Report displays the amount of data the server is sending and receiving.

The Request/Response Report displays the number of requests your server receives and how quickly it responds.

The Server Uptime Report displays the amount of your server's uptime and downtime.

To access the reports

  1. Open the Reports tab of Setup.
  2. Click Run Report.
Browser Report

The Browser Report shows you which browsers the Destiny patrons are using.

The browser list can include any version of Internet Explorer®, Netscape Navigator®, FireFox®, or Safari™. It includes only those versions actually used. Any other browsers used appear as Other.

  1. Select a Date Range.
  2. Click Update.

A pie chart displays a comparison of the numbers of browsers. Beneath the chart are the actual numbers and percentages for each browser version.

To view the percentage for a section, hover your cursor over the section.

Bandwidth Report

You can view the amount of your bandwidth that Destiny uses for all requests and responses, by bytes received and sent.

  1. Enter a date and time span for which you want statistics.
Click the calendar icon for a calendar.
To step through the days, click the arrows on either side of the Date box.
  2. To refresh the statistics, click Update.

Each bar in the chart represents the number of bytes sent or received in a single time interval. The default interval is 10 minutes.

To view the time interval and bytes sent or received for each bar, hover your cursor over the bar.

To zoom in, shorten the time span to the hours or minutes of interest, and then click Update.
The minimum report duration is 10 minutes.

Request/Response Report

These charts display the number of requests the server receives and its average or median response time. The response time includes server response time and the time for the connection from socket-to-socket.

  1. Select the desired check boxes adjacent to Request Type.
    • Back Office traffic includes report generation, patron record maintenance, and, for Textbook Manager, class maintenance.
    • Catalog traffic includes the students' searches for materials and the staff's maintenance of materials records.
    • Quest traffic includes the students' searches for materials in Destiny Quest®.
    • Circulation traffic is primarily transactions between patrons and materials (for example, checkins and checkouts).
    • Cognite API traffic includes communications between Destiny and the Destiny Quest® Mobile App.
    • Static Content includes the transmission of content such as images, sounds, documents, and other files that do not need to be dynamically generated. Many of these are cached by the browser and have expiration dates. Please be aware that a spike in requests may occur after a school break.
  2. Select either Average (mean) or Median (the mid-point value) Response Time.
  3. If you want to see how much variation there is from the Average Response time, select the Include Standard Deviation check box.
A wide standard deviation indicates that the response times vary quite a bit from the average; a narrow standard deviation indicates that they are clustered closely around the average.
  4. Enter the date and a time range for which you want statistics. Click the calendar icon for a calendar.
  5. To refresh the information, click Update.

To step through the days, click the arrows on either side of the Date box.

To zoom in, shorten the time span to the hours or minutes of interest, and then click Update.
The minimum report duration is 10 minutes.

Server Uptime Report
  1. Select the month (any of the last 12) for which you want the report.
  2. To refresh the information, click Update.

A pie chart displays a comparison between the uptime and the downtime. Below that is a bar chart breaking down the downtime by hour each day.

To display the number of minutes down, hover your cursor over a partially-down cell.
