Patron Status defined

Destiny supplies three patron statuses that you can use as you wish. A patron's status affects the patron's borrowing ability.

Active

This status is usually assigned to patrons who are currently enrolled at a school or to patrons at a public library, who can check out materials. Unless a patron has exceeded one of the limits set in your Library Policies, transactions in Circulation are successful.

Inactive

This status is usually assigned to patrons who are not currently enrolled at a school or to patrons at a public library who have not checked out materials recently. This status triggers the block message.

Restricted

This status is usually assigned to patrons who need restrictions on their borrowing privileges, usually due to outstanding fines or overdue copies. This status triggers the block message.

When a patron is Inactive or Restricted, a block message appears in Circulation whenever a transaction is attempted:

Transaction blocked:

<PatronName> (Barcode: <barcode number>)

Inactive or restricted patron.

Do you want to complete this transaction?

If you have the permission to override blocks, you can click Yes or No. Otherwise, you need to enter an authorized user's name and password to override the block.

If you would like to provide the Circulation staff with more information about a particular patron's borrowing ability, you can create an important note that appears in Circulation whenever a staff member retrieves the patron record.
