Find materials by number

To search the catalog by number:

1. Select the type of number from the list, and then scan or enter the number in the box.
2. If available, choose the collections to search from the Location list.
3. Click Go!.

Wildcards

Number Search does not accept wildcards (? or *).

To search for standard numbers or control numbers

To search for an LCCN, ISBN, ISSN, or Control Number, you must enter the complete number. Destiny only returns exact matches.

Whenever you enter an ISBN, Destiny searches for both the 10-digit and 13-digit form of that ISBN.
This allows you to scan the 13-digit ISBN beginning with 978 on a newly-purchased book and retrieve an older title record containing the 10-digit ISBN—and the reverse.

Destiny does not add the alternate ISBN to the title record.

To search for call numbers

When you search for a call number:

• Destiny® performs a Starts with search. This allows you to enter the first part of a call number to retrieve a range of call numbers.
  For example, a search for 82 returns all call numbers beginning with 82, such as 820 DRA through 829.3 CLA. It does not return call numbers such as 082 or REF 082. (If you are searching for 082, enter 082. Please do not omit the zero.)
• Destiny ignores differences in case as well as any brackets [ ] surrounding the prefix.
  For example, a search for FIC returns call numbers beginning with FIC, fic, and [Fic].
• Destiny does not ignore punctuation at the beginning of, or within, a prefix.
  For example, a search for FIC does not return call numbers beginning with ^FIC or *FIC. A search for AV does not return call numbers beginning with A.V.

Remember that the Call Number Search is copy-based. If a title record has more than one copy with the same call number, the title appears more than once in the results list. Each listing contains copy information for that particular copy.
